Independent Medical Evaluations in all specialties are available nationwide. Our Professional Roster of experienced Assessors is continuously updated on industry trends. Evaluations are available face to face or on a paper review basis.
Functional Abilities Evaluations are completed using ARCON computerized technology, providing a valid, reproducible evaluation. Our portable unit can be transported to the person’s home or worksite if necessary.
Customized evaluations include Multidisciplinary Assessments, In-Home Occupational Therapy and Nursing Assessments and Job Site Analyses from accredited Kinesiologists.
MRI and CT Scan Expedited Bookings are available from a number of Centres. Pharmacological and Chiropractic File Reviews complete the package.

Independent Medical Examinations
Appointments are made quickly with our internal schedulers and a confirmation letter is forwarded to the physician to include pertinent medical information and specific case-related questions. Appointment confirmation letters are sent to your client, his/her attorney, if represented, and claims professional.
Exams are structured to answer your case-related questions. Responses to standard questions include the following areas:
- Diagnosis, Prognosis
- History of injury and subsequent medical treatment
- Prior injuries and/or pre-existing conditions
- Impact on current diagnosis
- Further treatment required and projected evaluations
- Is treatment reasonable and necessary?
- Client’s functional abilities
- Is the client substantially disabled from performing the essential tasks of activities of normal living?
- Is client capable of essential duties of pre-accident occupation?
- Restrictions/limitations, time frame
- Graduated return to work indicated? duration?
- Further diagnostics recommended?
- Has client reached maximum medical improvement?

Multidisciplinary Insurer Examinations
WorkLab can offer two or more professions and disciplines providing integrated and coordinated services including evaluation and assessment activities. This could include the bringing together of an orthopaedic review alongside a functional capacities evaluation.
Functional Abilities Evaluation
The key activity is finding employment for those unable to find work on their own after injury or illness. Cold calling and field work are used extensively to find a suitable employer. Job trials and unpaid work experience may be developed to offer work conditioning and skills enhancement. Job interview rehearsal is included as is electronic job search. Regular reports are available.
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is of value to identify basic signs and symptoms including pain management, wound care and to improve function. It could include relaxation techniques, weight control and appropriate use of supportive devices, equipment and braces. This is available on a paper review basis or as a treatment assignment.
Speech Therapy
The Speech-Language Pathologist assists with communication disorders presented by complex injury. The treatment involves a review of cognitive communication, speech language and swallowing. It is often an element included in a life care plan review or forms part of a personal injury treatment plan. It can be offered as a paper review service.
Fit for Duty Assessment
A quick and effective way to know your worker is ready to begin employment with your company. A detailed functional abilities evaluation with ARCON measures capacities to lift, carry, stoop and climb. Testing is an excellent prevention measure that helps lessen the likelihood of workplace injury.

Massage Therapy
A registered massage therapist is available to do independent medical reviews on a paper review basis.
Paper Reviews
Paper Reviews are available to comment on medical and rehabilitation benefits. Reports are always made available from medical specialists that have comparable backgrounds to the original assessor. Reports are made available promptly as per legislative guidelines.

Vocational Rehabilitation
Vocational Rehabilitation assessors are experts who provide independent examinations and peer reviews geared to determining rehabilitation benefits entitlement.
Social Work
Social Work assessors are experts who provide independent examinatikons and peer reviews geared to determining rehabilitation benefits entitlement.
Driving Rehabilitation
Includes clinical assessment that reviews driving history, driving needs and license status review of medical history and medications, visual / perceptual assessment, assessment of range of motion, motor strength, coordination ,sensation and reaction time and cognitive assessment.
Functional on road assessment including entry and exit from vehicle, mobility aid management, vehicle preparation, vehicle control, adherence to traffic rules and regulations and use of compensatory strategies.
Communication of assessment results and recommendations to the client are central. This may include return to driving with or without adaptive equipment, limited driving with restrictions, a recommendation for remedial driving instruction or retraining, a cease driving recommendation or a re-evaluation recommendation in the light of anticipated improved functioning.
